TETHERED - NEW PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES 2024

TETHERED is surrealist photography series that places suits in the desert landscape of Hollywood.
The suits are faceless entities, aggressively altered to become spectres within the environment.

At times they will hold balloons as a playful contrast to their business demeanor, a whimsical notion with no true grounding, a false hope.

What they represent is more important than who they are.

For this series I am specifically inspired by the playful and dark absurdity of Rene Magritte’s work and the subversive analogous elements of Michael Cook’s photography.

Both artists create distilled and potent imagery that is visually alluring yet layered with deeper sentiments. Magritte sort to place the ordinary in the unfamiliar spaces to disrupt our automatic psychological interpretations. Cook mythologizes a post-colonial Indigenous viewing of Australia through inventive and incisive visual storytelling and juxtaposition.

Whilst observing these methodologies, TETHERED seeks to connect the lateral with the visually striking whilst exposing an underlying tension between this playful abstraction and our greater reality.

The first installment of the shoot will be at Bronson Caves with potential to expand this concept to other locations.
